Info: Aviation karabiners are exposed to permanently changing loads during the flight. The DHV has asserted through measurements with paragliders that these load variations are between 10 and 110 kg and more and can appear up to 26 times per second.
Construction- and production-conditioned conventional karabiners exhibit a more or less large gate play. The catch is not loaded until a load of the karabiner between 25 and 120 kg. That means the karabiner is loaded during flight in the range of the gate play as if the catch was open.
Tests of the DHV show that conventional karabiners with a large gate play do not permanently bear up the normal flight stress.
